ABSTRACT

Globalization is a major force in the social context of families everywhere - though some are more involved than others. This chapter presents an overview of the globalization process, and shows some of its difficulties and its advantages. It analyzes some of the diversities in the value systems of global actors both among those who are engaged in the process and those who deride or abuse it. Aside from the kind of massive rejection of the whole idea of globalization - another form of discontent centers on fears of corruption. At the psychological level, there is the discontent associated with the global power of the multinational corporation. Complementing the organizational and societal dimensions of the dissatisfactions, there are some compelling psychological ones. An important one is associated with the feeling of loss of identity andof control of one's destiny. Removal to a global capital, whether New York, Geneva, Tokyo or Vienna, is even more so.
