(a). (Prologue First Part): The life with particular reference to its influence on the writing, including – for instance – reference to a dysfunctional upbringing and problems of belonging and identity.
(b). (Prologue Second Part): A brief examination of the age, stressing its combination of thrusting developmental progress and decline – of expansionist confidence and debilitating doubt, itself related to the disturbing effects of evolutionary theory and new scientific and archaeological discoveries.
