ABSTRACT

This chapter seeks to identify a framework for evaluating the work of US family service centres. It should not be assumed however that such a framework is specific to the American service context only. It is highly relevant to UK family centre provision, and we hope that the proposals we set out will help practitioners and researchers plan their evaluation or at least compare their approach with the methods and ideas identified in US social work and human services literature. We do not dwell overly in this chapter upon research issues, instruments and measures, these will be discussed in the final chapter, instead we search out the contours of effective evaluation and the key elements that need to be considered and selected.
