ABSTRACT

High-speed recordings require more precise timing from a musician. When recording a band, musicians need individual mixes on their headphones. A drummer, for instance, will need sufficient volume of the rest of the band in his cans, as he can already hear his kit acoustically. Although individual headphone mixes are essential for recording a band, they could work adversely when overdubbing. During recording, the performance should be scrutinized for intensity, timing and tuning. After recording, the result can be verified in context by unmuting the earlier vocal tracks. Once music producers start recording in the studio, try getting used to a safe headphone volume. Not only must music producers create the right atmosphere for the musicians to feel comfortable; they also need to guide them during their performance, and take care of the technical side of the session, which can be quite demanding.
