ABSTRACT

Modern science was born in the 17th century and its initial critics viewed science and literature as rationality versus intuition, emotion and sensibility. Theatre, film, television and video games are media forms in science. They incorporate the visual, auditory and poetic in a representation of the world, of ideas and of the thoughts of the characters portrayed. The connections and dissimilarities of literature and science have been analyzed and expounded on by a huge corpus of works. As far as science is concerned, behind all scientific writing is an agenda. The writer/scientist is asking and answering questions and wants to commend his or her ideas to the reader/scientist. "This is right, this fits, this is neat" – that is what is behind all scientific narratives. A small number of scientists occasionally cross the divide between science and the arts and write novels. Many novels are in the science fiction genre, but some scientists delve into other types of fiction writing.
