ABSTRACT

The Serials module subsumes all of the processes associated with the control of serials in a library. The focus is on creating and maintaining a file of serial holdings and on order processing. Serials systems differ from their equivalent for monographs in that they must control each issue of each copy of a given title. The serials file on BookshelF is not currently available for access by the public via an on-line public access catalogue, but rather acts as an administrative tool. Further, the module does not cover circulation control, except in so far as it offers facilities for journal circulation systems. In some respects then, the Serials module draws together in one module all of the processes normally associated with the control of library material, but with only limited access to the Serials File for users and only routing facilities for circulation control.
