ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the pragmatic and practical aspects of conducting this study within the context of the theoretical discussion of the postmodern approach. It discusses a theoretical abstract discussion of postmodern notions, to a consideration of the local, contextual, restricted theorising of postmodern social inquiry. The chapter discusses the ‘doing of the research’; exploring such issues as defining the texts for research, gaining ethical clearance, establishing preliminary and ongoing relationships with KHS, and collecting, shaping and giving meaning to the data. It explores the many influences on how the data for this research was shaped and given meaning, with the researcher’s voice being seen as but ‘one among others creating meaning’. To recapitulate on the discussion so far, this research will be situated in a postmodern approach with particular emphasis placed on the notions associated with discourse and deconstruction.
