ABSTRACT

Bion believed that perceptions of reality could be transformed by internal psychic mechanisms that affect thinking and judgments concerning reality. His theory of hallucinosis is a platform to understand the Nazi racial belief system that led to the mass conversion experiences in which Hitler became a violent basic assumption leader. The Nazi hallucinotic distortions contained feared medical and ideological threats posed by Jews that required preemptive violence without punishment. It found receptive followers in the German nation seeking a redemptive crusade or quests for racial purity. All violent and redemptive ideologies are likely hallucinotic transforming accurate perceptions while relieving basic fears.
