ABSTRACT

D. Westen words reflect the powerful interaction of evolution and nature in directing election cycles. The analogous nature of junk food and junk news is an interesting one. Sugar is a staple in junk food, but it seems as if an altogether different kind of junk – junk news – was being consumed before the 2016 Presidential Election – particularly in swing states. The World Health Organization recently cited this kind of ‘junk news’ as one of the top ten threats to society that exist; the obesity crisis, partly precipitated by the over-ingestion of junk food, constitutes another. Campaigners cite tech addiction as a ‘huge public health problem’ that has contributed to higher levels of depression, anxiety and suicide. Geomagnetic storms are also correlated with enhanced anxiety, sleep disturbances, altered moods, and greater incidences of psychiatric admissions and can be divided into three phases: the initial phase, main phase and recovery phase.
