ABSTRACT

Dramatherapy is as individual as each person practising it. If the therapist has no administrative support to go to dramatherapy courses, most local authorities offer drama classes in their evening further education programmes. Drama is an experience and it is difficult to impart the nature of that verbally, so much of the student's time is spent in practical sessions. A course in group dynamics taken early in dramatherapy career was most valuable. Most dramatherapists want to extend their training at some time and as both psychodrama and dramatherapy have their roots in the two areas of drama and therapy, it is a logical specialised training to undertake and can supplement the basic training. Although dramatherapy is a group therapy, there are sometimes encounters within the group that require careful handling and an understanding of individual counselling techniques can help the dramatherapist to deal with these problems.
