ABSTRACT
This chapter defines the concepts used most commonly in work around community involvement in health. It also gives a categorisation of commu nity groups to illustrate the range and different types of community groups that might exist in an area. This should help planners and community health workers uncover the full range of community groups that exist in their area and so decide which parts of the community they want to involve in a piece of work and at what level.
