ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the most widely used treatment for eating disorders, CBT, is compared and contrasted to the ILET treatment method in terms of delivery and theoretical underpinning. This is in order to explore and illuminate the stubborn inability of CBT to pass the 50% ‘cure’ rate in eating disorders and to put forward possible solutions to the theoretical gaps described in the CBT method which, it is suggested, are resolved by the ILET approach to the treatment of eating disorders.
