ABSTRACT
The main comparator group for the university-based firms described in Chapter 13 is the high-technology based (HT) group from the Queen’s University ‘outreach’ exercise. It is necessary however to be cautious when comparing the results of these separate studies. Firstly, because the companies in the outreach study were all located in Northern Ireland whereas the university sample includes companies drawn from further afield. Where appropriate, therefore, comparisons have been made with the QUBIS Limited companies, which form a sub-set of about one-third of the university sample and are located in Northern Ireland.
