ABSTRACT

The literature on university companies has highlighted a number of critical issues affecting firstly, the decision to form a university company and secondly, the prospects for its success. These are not of course the only considerations in company formation and operation. A great many factors including the likely market demand for the proposed company’s products or services, the availability of funding, of staffing and of physical resources such as buildings and space, are also important. These latter factors however apply to the formation of any new enterprise, are not unique to university companies and are not considered here.
