ABSTRACT

Every research has its own significance depending on the subject investigated and the sources of data collected. Educational or social psychological studies employ different techniques to tackle different issues or problems. The nature of the present study may be regarded as an empirical one incorporating a variety of methods. It is a multi-technique approach, drawing its methodological basis mainly from survey, descriptive, empirical and historical research methods. The main techniques used in the study were self-completion questionnaires and interviewing. The chapter describes the tools and their administration that are used in the study. The samples employed were drawn from three groups of adolescents: British-Chinese, European British and Hong Kong Chinese. The optimum sample size for reliable population estimates to be made for the British- Chinese group of the relevant age range was calculated at 360, using a formula published by the National Education Association.
