ABSTRACT

Researchers interested in investigating teacher research can use a variety of strategies to identify a research topic. Curiosity leads researchers to ask broad questions about teacher research that can then be narrowed down to topics with a clear focus. Once researchers have made a note of these questions, they can organize them into different groups according to their main themes, identify any overlapping questions, scrap questions that are impossible to narrow down, and think about which questions lend themselves to being subdivided into narrower foci. Teacher research as a field has been explored by a number of researchers. The way teachers conceive of research is a fundamental topic because different conceptions of research have implications for their engagement in research. Interviews with teacher educators and classroom practitioners may also yield insights into how participants describe the training gap. Analyzing written and spoken definitions provides insight into the ways teachers think about research.
