ABSTRACT

Community employment should be one of the important outcomes of PSE courses, and this outcome will be more likely if students have had successful work experience while in the program. This chapter opens with a discussion on why community-based paid employment is so important and then offers specific strategies and partnership arrangements. These strategies and partnerships can help students better plan for successful community employment, search out and enlist employers, and provide support and instruction while students are learning community job skills. The chapter concludes with brief strategies we have found helpful over the last decade to promote a smoother transition from college back to the students’ selected career choice.
