ABSTRACT
A frequent question is why anyone would go into industrial engineering instead of the other engineering disciplines. This chapter uses storytelling to explain why industrial engineering is, indeed, needed in all facets of operations in business, industry, government, and the military. Some of the early pioneers of industrial engineering are profiled in this chapter.
