ABSTRACT

Missionary men found the Provincial in a little town called St Christopher, between Chiapa of the Indians and the Royal Chiapa, recreating himself in the shady walks, which are many sweet and pleasant in that small town. Thus the good Prior or Chiapa feasted christian missionaries, and permitted their to enjoy them liberty as long as it seems it had been agreed upon by letters between him and the Provincial, which was till it might be dinner time in the cloister of Chiapa, where christian missionaries were to be before noon. From hence missionary men came to the city of Oaxaca, which is a bishop's seat, though not very big, yet a fair and beautiful city to behold. It standeth fourscore leagues from Mexico in a pleasant valley from whence Cortez was named Marques del Valle, the Marquess of the Valle.
