ABSTRACT

Most people will experience stress at some point in their working lives. That it is a major factor in the workplace is backed up by research, and the Association of Insurance and Risk Managers state: "Stress is likely to become the most dangerous emerging risk to business in the early part of the 21st century. Key themes in policies from Europe and the UK include equal opportunities, lifelong learning, work organisation, work life balance and work related stress as well as support, resources and relationships with colleagues and managers. Resilience is a broad term meaning processes to overcome stressful and difficult events and can emerge from adversity. In order to foster resilience in organisations, the author believes it is important for workers at all levels in organisations to have access to resources which will help them to take steps to look after their own mental health.
