ABSTRACT

EuroAfrica Linie emerged as the first part of the reformed Polish Ocean Lines in the process of restructuring the state owned liner shipping company, when it was separated off from the mother organisation in 1990 and released to operate independently within the newly liberalised market place that was created from that year in Polish shipping. EuroAfrica sees a large number of benefits in the variety and types of owners that they have and also in moves to ensure that certain trends in ownership are constrained as much as is possible. EuroAfrica intends to implement a full private company operation and philosophy but has recognised that this will take time to impose fully and thus in their own words “will need support until they can face the market”. EuroAfrica has adopted a company structure that mirrors that of many west European companies and contrasts notably with the organisation that exists in most state owned companies.
