ABSTRACT

As a nursing instructor instructor are accountable to provide the best learning experience possible for instructor students. Nursing staff must understand that instructor and the students are guests in the agency and must not be included in staffing assignments. Most acute care agencies have nurse educators or a clinical nurse specialist that instructor may contact to help instructor and instructor's students provide safe and appropriate care. In smaller agencies a manager may serve in a dual role as supervisor and educator and are valuable resources too. The nursing unit manager is an excellent resource to instructor. There may also be a charge nurse assigned that can be more accessible to instructor in the event a procedural issue or incident arises on the unit and instructor are not sure how to proceed. Student performance issues including violations related to program policies may be initially handled by instructor if they are minor and are quickly corrected by the student.
