ABSTRACT

Professionalism and ethics are qualities that instructor must role model to instructor's nursing students during instructor's interactions with them privately and in front of their peers, patients, and other agency personnel. Nursing programs admit a variety of individuals to programs who come from many backgrounds and age groups. Using instructor's assessment skills, instructor can identify and prioritize immediate needs for some members of the group as instructor begin the clinical experience. Instructor may not get to know all of instructor's students at once. Students may share personal and academic information with instructor as instructor's clinical progresses. The use of technology and personal devices must also have specific parameters. Texting, taking photographs and making personal phone calls in the patient care area must be prohibited. Setting high expectations for professionalism early during clinical with every interaction will create habits that students can carry into their future careers with instructor's guidance.
