ABSTRACT

To avoid the possibility of a confusion of terms, and of quibbling, the author wishes to say that the term “word of God” as applied to the Bible is used in its generally accepted meaning of being literature of which God is the responsible author. The word “inspiration” is used in the same generally accepted sense of being the infusion of influence or ideas into the mind of man by God in a supernatural manner, and for the purpose of conveying to man knowledge that he would not otherwise acquire. The word “revelation” is used in the sense of being a communication from God to man, of moral and religious knowledge which man could not have acquired by the laws and processes by which he acquires other knowledge. The Bible, itself, tells us that the Hebrews worshiped a golden calf in the very teeth of the commandment thundered from Mount Sinai: “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”.
