ABSTRACT

When I entered Kashgar, on July 30, 1906, I was again received with the greatest kindness by Sir G. Macartney, the English consulgeneral (at that time still political agent) (Plate 49). I was very ailing, and Lady Macartney kept me some time as a patient in her house to restore me to health again. Meantime the return journey over Russia was rendered impossible by the outbreak of a native revolution there.
