ABSTRACT

Value analysis emerged after World War II to rationalize the usage of raw materials. The fundamental concept is that of function. Its purpose is to increase the value of objects by executing their functions at lower costs. Value analysis promotes hazard identification through the concept of aggressive function. Moreover, it provides a method to select effective and low-cost risk control measures, promoting the integration of the safety function with other vital functions of the organization. Risk analysis emerged from the military area. Value analysis is a civilian creation induced by the limitation of materials during World War II. The object may perform complementary functions in parallel with the basic one, completing it under one or more than one point of view. Illuminate display, resist impact, and resist pressure are complementary functions of a watch. In some cases, the complementary functions are vital functions.
