ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book shows how professionals in the aviation industry and academic researchers complement each other in their pursuit of more effective and efficient training. It demonstrates that there is an emerging profession of flight instruction. The book describes the approach of SHL Asia Pacific to its international work in pilot selection. It examines the influence of human factors on training; points to a new way of looking at flight training and explores the implications of their research into how pilots learn. The book looks at the role of part-task simulation, and discusses points to the importance of appropriate evaluation of training and instruction. It provides models and hints for the design and development of airline resource management programs based on insight derived from extensive experience.
