ABSTRACT

This chapter considers Human Factors knowledge and skill training for operational personnel and anticipate the future integration of technical and Human factors training, as well as a growing role for management training. Human Factors training should not be limited to the operational personnel directly involved in the front line of day-to-day operations. Human error has long been the predominant factor in aviation accidents and incidents. The most successful and widely implemented aviation Human Factors skills development program to date is known as Crew Resource Management. The Human Factors skill development program developed and implemented by Transport Canada is mostly directed towards general aviation users operating in a single-pilot environment. The aviation industry has come a long way since the days in which Human Factors was regarded as a branch of aviation medicine and the flight surgeon was the only practitioner versed in the field.
