ABSTRACT

This part introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters. The part examines rationales for training; an emphasis on human factors; research on the ways pilots learn; transfer of training from simulators to aircraft; the technology of part-task training; and the evaluation of training in aviation. It presents a macro-view of pilot training Manager of Training Policy with Cathay Pacific Airways, provides the micro-view. Regular symposia conducted by International Civil Aviation Organization have kept him in touch with approaches to human factors training in general aviation and the airlines, and at ab initio as well as advanced pilot training. The part addresses the following questions: How necessary is the emphasis on realism in simulation? It deals with the vital topic of evaluation of training. Competency based, Systems Approach to Training depends upon an evaluation to validate the match of training and job performance.
