ABSTRACT

People live their lives not just as individuals, but as members of a variety of collectivities, each of which has an agenda of significance for human well-being. Human life begins when a sperm which contains the genetic material of a male fertilizes an egg which contains the genetic material of a female. After the family, the most common non-government human collectivities in modern society are business, ‘for profit’, commercial, or market-based organizations. An ethically justified agenda for a business organization would include concern for the well-being of its employees. The sponsorship by commercial organizations of sporting competitions and events, is an insidious form of uninformative advertising, and commercial media interests have begun to take over control of what were originally community-based sporting competitions. The involvement of professionals in influencing agenda-setting for voluntary welfare organizations varies greatly between organizations, and can vary within the same organization at different periods of time.
