ABSTRACT

Certain aspects of care, such as maintaining dignity and respect for privacy, are generally regarded as desirable attributes of residential care per se. Other issues, such as the importance of activities and types of regime that are suitable for elderly people with confusional difficulties, are open to debate. Ultimately, decisions about these should depend upon the effect on residents: the outcomes of care. The purpose of this chapter is to estimate a model which relates aspects of the supra-personal, social and physical environment described in previous chapters to outcomes for the sample residents, providing a contribution to these more debatable issues.
