ABSTRACT
The issues which give rise to the need to develop mental health crisis services vary little between societies, though ways of addressing them differ greatly at times. To make sense of the different choices included in some of the examples given below it is necessary to take into account the social, cultural, political, economic and professional context which fosters and enables these choices to be made.
