ABSTRACT

Today, large centralised computer services are becoming the exception rather than the rule. The preference for decentralised business management is echoed in the provision of decentralised IT services, with coherence being provided by corporate networks. The role of the centre is increasingly to provide essentially central services such as corporate databases and accounting, or expensive specialised services such as high powered numerical processing.
