Bohemia the old-fashioned way

The boburb is a middle position between suburbia and bohemia. When the Highlands matured from bohemia to boburbia, the adjacent working-class neighborhoods drew the new generation of educated artists and craft workers. Whereas suburbia and boburbia are relatively enduring types of neighborhoods, bohemia is, as Richard Lloyd noted, “always already over.” Today’s organic bohemias already show signs of becoming “the new Highlands.”
