ABSTRACT

This chapter summarizes our findings about the functioning of the centrally planned system in socialist Czechoslovakia. The chapter is tied to the previous one that analyzed the formal settings of the Czechoslovak system. This chapter, based on our interviews, on the contrary describes the everyday practice. The main intention is to show the relationships among the actors in the planned system. We firstly describe the key characteristics of the general environment (4.1). This description consequently provides a platform for an analysis of the role each constituent, i.e., the centre (4.2), the VHJs (4.3), and the companies (4.4).
