ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes how macro models have developed, provides a picture of their level of development and examines some of the issues, both economic and technical, that arise in their construction and use. It explains about the construction of models through econometric estimation methods. The book discusses the motivation, the objectives of research exercise, the methodology adopted and the layout of the study. It also provides a general survey of the performance and problems of the Iraqi economy. The book is concerned with the indirect impact of the oil sector revenues on the planning machinery and economic growth during the period 1950–1980. It explores the interaction of the oil export sector and the indigenous sectors of the Iraqi economy and also presents a review of the relevant existing work in relation to the Iraqi economy.
