ABSTRACT

The impact of the oil export and non-oil export sectors on the economy and the characteristics of the economy can be summarised in input-output tables. The growing crude oil production in Iraq has been highly oriented to the export market, with less than seven per cent of crude oil produced being used at home during the period 1956–1969. The oil export sector in Iraq played a far different role from that played by export in certain other countries. For example, in Japan, the export sector was an integral part of the domestic economy and was a vital and influencing factor on the whole economy with different requirements. The chapter explains the direct influence of the non-oil export sector on the economy, and shall demonstrate the comparisons between the direct influences of the non-oil export sector with those of the oil export sector. The respective direct influences of individual non-oil export can be vastly different.
