ABSTRACT

There is an intriguing parallel between the development of cross-border journalism and the way scholars began to recognise issues about networked societies and digitalisation in the late 1990s and the 2000s. As cross-border journalism grows more prevalent and prominent, direct academic research about the practice is now emerging. This chapter outlines the context of cross-border journalism in globally networked societies with new digital tools. It moves on to consider the ongoing conceptualisation of cross-border journalism following the publication of some globally prominent cross-border projects. The chapter outlines fields of research and their findings; and indicates a number of potential problems to address.
