ABSTRACT

Although CBT for psychosis (CBTp) has been recommended as a best practice since 2002, it is rarely thought of as an intervention for the acute psychiatric inpatient unit. However, studies now show that CBTp-informed interventions can be incorporated into the milieu of treatment settings in which the majority of people with psychosis receive treatment, especially in the US, which may greatly improve access to those services. This chapter presents a description of such CBTp-informed interventions, with a particular emphasis on the role of the inpatient psychologist in devising, implementing and disseminating them. Examples are provided to illustrate effective strategies and approaches.
