ABSTRACT

What kind of land-use planning should we be engaged in as we face emerging technology, such as autonomous vehicles? Johnson and Riggs explore how we might first rethink city space for people, which allows us to rethink open space in cities that are often inadequate and sometimes used to limit urban growth and to instead focus on creating truly sustainable and resilient places. They offer insights on what kind of land uses, open spaces, and streets and infrastructure that planners should be considering in cities. The chapter also emphasizes the need to be action-oriented, offering insights about what planners and policymakers can do with their comprehensive planning and capital investment strategies to be ready for the future of mobility.
