ABSTRACT

Tool wear control is a necessary step to ensure the machining accuracy of micro electric discharge machining (EDM). The dimensional errors in the machined part are highly influenced by tool electrode erosion. This chapter provides a comprehensive study on the tool wear parameters, the effect of machining parameter on tool wear, and tool compensation methods. Offline and online tool wear compensation methods are discussed in detail. Advantages and limitations of both processes are presented. Special tool wear control methods such as tool coating are also discussed.
