ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses contributions that the secular academic study of religions can make to the common good. It thus develops an alternative and maybe complementary perspective to the perspective of Public Theology. The text explores how religious studies can foster 1) a critical awareness of students’ taken-for-granted assumptions, and 2) an appreciation of diverse religious and secular worldviews as resources for students’ own ecological and moral imaginations.
