ABSTRACT

Liposomes are very studied structures and used in research, because they have a great ability to carry different compounds, thus being able to be adapted for the most diverse applications. In this chapter we discuss quickly and clearly the possible ways to produce and characterize liposomes in order to reach the central nervous system (CNS). Production and characterization methods are discussed, as well as modifications performed on the surface of liposomes to provide the vectorization to CNS. Although much research has been successful in this process, the task of achieving such a complex system is not easy and new strategies are emerging every day to carry the assets for this system, and new modifications in the structure of liposomes are among them.
