ABSTRACT

The notion of workforce diversity originated in the United States-based organizational literature because, having defined itself early as country of immigrants, the United States had to contend with diversity from its beginning. Workforce diversity has become an important issue in today’s companies, as they are becoming increasingly diverse with respect to their workforce. The tourism and hospitality industry has typically employed many minorities as well as other persons who are seeking a part-time job or short-time job. Immigration, the increase in global organizations, and the increasing number of women entering the organizational workforce have led to greater and greater workplace diversity. Managing diversity includes building specific skills and creating policies and roles that increase the best work behaviors and attitudes from each worker. Workplace diversity management is broadly defined as the systematic and planned commitment by the organization to recruit, reward, and promote a various mix of employees.
