ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book discusses the lower limbs through a mythological lens and different cosmogonic myths that make use of the bodily segments are emulated in their symbolic aspects. The occurrence of lesions or marks on these limbs are also presented in order to corroborate the hypothesis that these bodily regions house the projections related to psychic progression or stagnation, as well as the creative or transforming destiny of those who bear a heroic personality. The book is concerned with a more specific condition related to unipedalism, and provides the forefront the symbolic idea that a form of bodily sustentation or displacement suggests a higher level of consciousness. It focuses on the importance of the universe of the foot and its symbolic representation in the Tapajoara image.
