ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how, in a rather synchronistic way, the Tapajoara statuette joined in the discussion of the lower limbs, primarily in the clinical setting and then in the writing of this material. The value of the method of amplification, as proposed by Jung, can be appreciated in this context, especially because it was, basically, the only tenable resource available to bring light to this rich but obscure clay image. The Tapajoara icon is discussed under its more objective aspects, beginning with its physical structure, plasticity, and artistic content. Some theoretical as well as empirical material made available by anthropological and historical sources is also brought in so that a better knowledge of this icon can be built up.
