ABSTRACT

This chapter investigates the Tapajoara icon under the light of possible symbolical understandings based on the material gathered in the previous chapters and its pertinent associations. Anthropological and archeological material was gathered, as well as research on the indigenous tribes from the Amazon basin, in order to support the discussion about the possible meaning of the statuette in its psychological context. Some features displayed by the statuette are contrasted against analogous material available in other cultures and contexts. Discussion on the religious appeal of this image is also conjectured in this chapter.
