ABSTRACT

The body and the mind are one system. The body systems shut down to tell to stop. And because the body is responding constantly as we work and interact, it’s important to notice this and take care of it. Noticing how our body is responding and analysing the source of this response can help us to be aware of what we need to change–a working habit, a relationship, a way of thinking. Practising mind–body awareness and self-care is therefore the foundation of great work and of great working relationships, not the medicine to take when things are going wrong. If we overwork ourselves or continually place ourselves under excessive stress and just stick these types of self-care on top, we are unlikely to thrive. The simplest form of self-care in the moment is to pause. For long-term lasting impact we also need to add in self-care.
