ABSTRACT

The obsession of modern man to control nuclear energy leads towards unseen risks such as accidents or potential nuclear war. As U. Beck puts it, one of the paradoxes of modernity started with the Chernobyl accident, where the same technology disposed to make this world a safer place, may impact negatively on the environment. One of the intriguing aspects that marks the end of the world seems to be associated with what Eric S. Rabkin dubbed as the introduction of a dark technology. Every end of millennium represents for human beings a new structuration of their beliefs, their production, forms of consumption, and even their hierarchical lines of authority. Originally starring Keanu Reeves, Carrie Anne Moss and Lawrence Fishburne, the saga is situated in a futurist landscape, where humankind is controlled and enslaved by machines.
