ABSTRACT

Examinations play a role similar to Sociology. Its emphasis on comparison will lead to the recomposition or self-composition of society and of Sociology itself, because comparison will lead to the breakdown of the fundamental assumptions of present society included in examinations, or of Sociology, which presupposes the present methods of examinations. The sociological study of examinations began during the period of the founding of the discipline of Sociology, with Max Weber calling examinations a proof of education. The idea of Comparative Sociology includes ideas from Japanese sociologists Joji Watanuki and Masamichi Sasaki, who have published a number of articles and books in English on the Comparative Sociology of politics, votes, democracy, religion, personality, trust, and more. There is important wisdom in being skeptical of Comparative Sociology on the grounds that all Sociology and all knowledge are necessarily comparative. This chapter presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the book.
